Favorite Stop in Kapaa – Mermaids Cafe

Don’t you love these places that use fresh local ingredients, make everything to order, and barely charge anything for all that trouble?  A tiny sidewalk cafe with brisk takeout and a handful of tables on Kapaa’s main drag, Mermaids takes kaffir lime, lemon grass, local lemons (Meyers), and organic herbs, to make the sauces and beverages to go with its incredible dishes.  Sauces are lively and heathful, such as the peanut satay made with lemon juice instead of fish sauce.  It’s served in the tofu or chicken satay, chicken coconut curry plate, and chicken satay wrap.  the seared ahi wrap is made with the chef’s special blend of garlic, jalapeno, lemon grass, kaffir lime, basil, and cilantro, then wrapped in a spinach tortilla —-fabulous!!!  I stop and get one every time I am on island.  The fresh squeezed lemonades is made daily, and you can choose white or organic brown rice.  These special touches elevate the simple classics to dreamy taste sensations!  A must stop on your list when on the East Side  known as the Coconut Coast.
