4th Annual Red Clay Jazz Festival

The 4th Annual Red Clay Jazz Festival brings nationally and regionally known jazz musicians to Kauai’s magnificent setting. This year’s artists include world renown flutist Hubert Laws and his Quintet, the talented Hailey Niswanger Quartet from Boston’s Berklee College of Music, the musical stylings of Phil & Angela Benoit of Maui and Kauai’s own Ne’ena Jazz. All will be playing throughout the afternoon and evening of June 25th in an outdoor setting Kauai Lagoons. Leading up to Saturday’s entertainment will be “Dinner Jazz” events on Wednesday, June 22nd and Thursday, June 23rd. On Friday, June 24th, there will be an evening of wine, food and meeting the jazz artists. Local chefs from 22 North, Kauai Beach Marriott and Hukilau Lanai will be on hand with their local specialties. Food and beverages will also be available all during Saturday’s jazz festival. Red Clay Jazz Festival – Dinner Jazz As part of the Red Clay Jazz Festival, enjoy “Dinner Jazz” sessions with the sounds of Kauai artist Michael Ruff at 22 North from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. or hear music of Ruff is a keyboardist and songwriter, associated with a number of Grammy award productions. Also playing is the Southside Swing Quartet with David Braun at Joe’s on the Green in Poipu from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For information go to http://redclayjazz.org

Red Clay Jazz Festival – Dinner Jazz As part of the Red Clay Jazz Festival, enjoy “Dinner Jazz” sessions with the sounds of the Hailey Niswanger Quartet at Marriott’s Aupaka Terrace in Lihue from 5:30 to 7:30. Treysara, a Kauai-based jazz duo is also playing in Princeville at the Westin’s Nanea Lanai from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Hailey Niswanger quartet presents the four finest student jazz musicians in Boston’s famed Berkelee College of Music. Hailey Niswanger, on alto and soprano saxophones, is joined by Takeshi Ohbayashi on piano, Aaron Darrell on acoustic bass and Mark Whitfield Jr. on the drums. America’s Dean of jazz critics, Nat Hentoff, has declared Hailey Niswanger, “a leading light for the next generation of jazz musicians.” Treysara is comprised of Trey and Sara Thompson, with Trey as a jazz bassist and Sara as an accomplished singer. Red Clay Jazz Festival – Meet the Artists Wine and Pupu Party

On Friday, June 24, “Meet the Artists,” an evening of wine, food and a chance to meet the festival’s featured jazz musicians, is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 at the Oasis on the Beach in Kapaa. Some of Kauai’s top chefs will present a variety of foods made with locally grown and organic ingredients, plus there will be a variety of wines to sample and enjoy. The jazz festival’s featured musicians will be on hand to “talk story” and answer questions about their passion for jazz. For ticket information, go to http://redclayjazz.org

June 25th

Red Clay Jazz Festival Spend an afternoon and evening in the spectacular outdoor setting at Kauai Lagoons Resort, in Lihue, listening to jazz presented by national, regional and local jazz artists. Headlining the festival is the Hubert Laws Quintet. Laws recently received the 2011 Jazz Masters’ Award by the National Endowment of the Arts. Gates open at 2:30, with music underway by 3 p.m. and lasting until dark. The Red Clay Jazz festival will also provide a number of food and beverage choices offered by Kauai-based restaurants and chefs. Steve Dubey and the Ne`ena Jazz Quartet of Kauai are the first act followed by Phil and Angela Benoit, award-winning jazz musicians from the island of Maui. The Hailey Niswanger Quartet, claimed to be the four finest jazz students at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, follows the Benoit performance.
