Hawaii Ocean Film Festival Honors Andy Irons

August 12th, 2011 7pm to 9:30pm

Featuring films about marine resources, ocean recreation, and our cultural connections to the sea, this special night includes Tribute films made in honor of Andy Irons. Originally scheduled for July 24th, which would have been Iron’s 33rd birthday, the persistent rain caused the event to reschedule. The event features a tribute directed and edited by Matt Beauchesne with footage provided by Mike Prickett, Billabong, Phil and Danielle Irons, Irons Brothers Productions and Run Man. Local filmmakers include Billy Grace and Joel Guy. Additionally, the event showcases some of the winning films from the 2011 Hawaii Ocean Film Festival including Emi Cataldi’s, Mayumba, Equator Flavored Pointbreaks on the Edge of Africa,& Which showcases the travel, exploration, adventures, and surf on the west coast of South Africa. Starring Sam Bleakley, Erwan Simon, Emi Cataldi, and Hawaii’s own Randy Rarick. The premier of “Te Mana o Te Moana,” produced and directed by Brady Cushway, with the story narrated by Olivia Marisol, offers a glimpse of the voyaging canoes that visited Hanalei on their historic trip to alert the world on the issues of the ocean environment, and the hokupu’u and hakas they presented to our local Kupuna for perpetuating our endangered cultures. The winning animation “Look to the Sea”, by Cable Hardin for the Census for Marine life, and the short Surfrider Foundation film about Net Patrol by Dr. Robert Zelkovsky, “Drop Zone Fiji,” by Body Glove, and the “Winning for Strangest Film submitted in 2011,” ‘Fishin’ For Arnold,’ by Pixel One Productions. The event was ponsored by Akamai Computer, Pahio Resorts, Kayak Kauai, Waihunahuna Farm, and the Surfrider Foundation. Shows begin at 7:00 pm. Bring blankets, beach chairs, and rain gear.
