Honeymoon and Honey Wine (Mead) in Kapa’a

Honey wine on your Hawaiian honeymoon — what a sweet idea!

Mead is wine made from honey and water, and is thought to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, alcoholic beverage known to humans.  In ancient times, newlyweds drank mead at their wedding ceremony and for one full moon cycle after the ceremony to ensure prosperity and fertility.  Hence, the term “honeymoon”.

The only meadery (place that makes mead) in Hawai’i is on Kaua’i and is in Kapa’a!  If you have ever enjoyed Kaua’i honey (and we hope you have as it is incredible), you will enjoy Nani Moon mead.   The meadery is a short drive up Kuhio Highway and has a tasting room (usually open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 Noon to 5 PM, but check to make sure).

Just picture it — a lovely bottle of mead, our lanais with the full moon dancing on the ocean, and your true love.  Ah, bliss!
