Festivals, Fairs, and Fetes on Kauai — July, August, and September


The March winds may still be blowing around your area, if you are on the mainland or other nontropical climate, but it is not too early to book a condo with us for events in July, August, and September.  The summer months are filled with many events, and we have more visitors during the summer vacation months, too.  Here are some important and fun events that await you on Kaua’i.

Important Events in July:

Garden Isle Artisan Fair — Saturday, July 14; 9 AM to 3 PM; Poipu.  Besides 40 local artisans, enjoy plate lunch, smoothies, shave ice, and other Hawaiian delights.  The event is free.

13th Annual Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo — July 20-22; Koloa; dedicating to paniolo culture and a local style rodeo with a skill level from keiki to professional. Preliminary Roping and America West Barrel Roping events, as well as a Paniolo Cookout and Music Celebration, leading up to the Sunday Rodeo with opening Ceremony and Grand Entry featuring the colorful Kauai All Girls Rodeo Drill team.

Important Events in August:

Heiva I Kaua‘i Ia Orana Tahiti 2012 — Saturday and Sunday, August 4 and 5; Kapa’a Beach Park; 9 AM to 5 PM; $5. This unique 2-day festival showcases Tahitian culture. Tahitian dance groups and soloists from Kaua‘i, Hawaii, mainland US, and Japan compete in categories for traditional and contemporary styles of Tahitian dance and drumming. Crafts and food vendors sell a wide variety of food choices and gift products both days.

Hawaii Sand Festival and Sand Castle/Art Contest  — Saturday, August 11; 11 AM to 4 PM; on beach to left of Hanalei Pier. Build your own sand castle or sand art and enjoy the music. Individuals or teams of any size are all welcome. Take a free lesson on sand creations from world-renowned sand sculpture Jeff Peterson at 11:30 AM. Prizes will be awarded for different age groups, individuals, teams, and types of art. This event is free.

Craft Fair in Paradise — Saturday, August 18; 9 AM to 4 PM;  Manokalanipo Park, Poipu Beach.  More than 60 artists and vendors with handcrafted items.  Do your Christmas shopping early! This event is free.

Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair  — Thursday to Sunday, August 23 to 26; Vidinha Stadium in Lihue.  The event of the year!  Food, farming, music, entertainment, games, rides, handicrafts, more food.  Events run all day, to 11 PM or later.

Important Events in September:

The Kauai Marathon — Sunday, September 2; 6 AM to 2 PM; Poipu.  The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon are one of the most beautiful destination races in the world.  Participants pass hula dancers and Taiko drum troupes along the course while viewing striking mountain views.  If you have ever thought of running a marathon, this event is for you.

Kaua’i Mokihana Festival — Sunday to Saturday, September 16 to 22; various venues around Kaua’i.  Music and entertainment.

And don’t forget 5th Annual Red Clay Jazz Festival held June 27 to 30 at various spots around the island.
