Favorite Flavors: Great Places to Eat on Kauai

Breakfast is waiting for you on Kauai

When you are on Kauai, you will want to experience all the remarkable flavors and foods of Kauai, a rich agricultural island.  While you may wish to go to a luau, most days, you will simply want to have some good local food.  You can visit the golden arches for lunch when you are home….try something a bit different on Kauai.

Eggbert’s at the Coconut Marketplace is an easy walk across the parking lot from Islander on the Beach units and a short walk or quick drive from Kapaa Sands, too.  Eggbert’s features, well, eggs!  And pancakes of various sorts (regular, banana, coconut, etc). Very often, a local hula dance school performs at breakfast, ensuring that you know you are on Kauai.

Across the street from Kapaa Sands is Passion Bakery.  This place opens early (about 6 AM) and bakes wonderful muffins, scones, rolls, and bread.  Pick up coffee and breakfast treats and head back to savor them on your lanai while watching the sunrise.  Passion Bakery is an easy walk from Islander on the Beach and if you are going to indulge in one of their Macadamia nut sticky buns, and only 1 or 2 pans are made each day so they go fast, you may want to walk over there!  Some days, Passion Bakery serves lunch, so check their schedule.

Small Town Coffee makes a wonderful eggless breakfast bagel, as well as offering other traditional breakfast items. They are known for their artistic lattes (got to see them!).  Small Town Coffee is located in downtown Kapaa so you will need to drive but there is ample parking.  Java Kai, downtown  Kapaa, is also excellent for breakfast and often has local organic honey for sale.

You will probably be out and about the island at lunchtime, but if you are in the Kapaa area, try Mermaid Café in the heart of downtown Kapaa.  Small Town Coffee serves a great lunch, too, and many times has local musicians or poets or authors performing, too.  Passion Bakery serves lunch on some days, so it is another option for you.  At the Shops at the Islander, try Kilauea Fish Market for salads, burritos, tacos, and other goodies.  Open for dinner, too.

One of the newest places in town is Caffé Coco,  a little cottage restaurant tucked away behind shops on Kuhio Highway.  It is close to Kapaa Sands, but probably is best to drive to the restaurant; parking is ample and free.  The menu is original and delightful, and the servings are large.  They accommodate vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free eaters, too. All seating is outside and the unusual glass beach at your feet is memorable.

Another great place for dinner is Hukilau Lanai, next door to Islander on the Beach. A more formal restaurant (but not fussy), it is the perfect place for a celebration dinner. Wonderful wine list.

All these great cafes and bistros and bakeries are close to our great properties.  You can book safely and securely on line in real time.  So come, stay with us, and enjoy wonderful fresh cuisine on the green Garden Isle of Kauai: book at
