Prince Kuhio

Prince Kuhio Day, actually it is a full week of events, is a major holiday on Kaua’i.  It is celebrated annually on March 26 to mark the anniversary of the birth of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole, heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Hawai’i and territorial delegate to the Unites States Congress.  Prince Kuhio Day was established in 1949 by the legislature of the Territory of Hawai’i.

Prince Kuhio authored the first Hawai’i Statehood Bill in 1919 and he won passage of the Hawaiian Homes Act that created the Hawaiian Homes Commission and set aside 200,000 acres of land for Hawaiian homesteaders.

Prince Kūhiō Day is 1 of only 2 holidays in the United States dedicated to royalty, the other being Hawaiʻi’s King Kamehameha Day on June 11.

Our Kauai vacation rental properties are located right off Kuhio Highway on the Royal Coconut Coast and offer easy access north, south, and west for all the Prince Kuhio Day festivities (Mach 21 to March 29, 2015).  If a week of cultural events, hula, luau, music, and crafts is too much for you, come stay with us at one of our affordable luxury Kauai vacation rentals for 3 or 4 days.  And if a week is not enough, we can help you with one of our rentals for a longer stay.  See all our Kauai vacation rentals at our website, www.hulanow.com, where you can book safely and securely on line.

Wishing you warm Aloha!
