Sunrise or Sunset, Explore a Great Place to Eat

If this is sunrise, time for a great breakfast.  If this is sunset, Kaua’i has many wonderful choices for dinner.

When on Kaua’i, you will want to enjoy all the great places to eat, plus you need the food energy to be able to hike, bike, swim, snorkel, or simply lie on the beach (which can use at least 36 calories per hour and is an acceptable mode of exercise on island).  Our website,, shows the location of many places around Islander on the Beach, Kauai Beach Resort, and Kapaa Sands, but it is fun to explore out further and discover new places and new flavors and foods.

For breakfast,  the standbys are Eggbert’s at the Coconut Marketplace and Passion Bakery, right across the street from Kapaa Sands and an easy walk from Islander on the Beach (and worth the trek for the macadamia nut sweet rolls).  Next door to Passion Bakery, a new bakery has opened: Haole Girl Island Sweets that also boasts a tasty selection of breakfast items, sweet and savory.

Lunchtime, we like Mermaids Café in downtown Kapaa and its next door neighbor, Java Kai. While we have long been here for morning coffee, we recently stopped in for a rather late lunch.  Exquisite tropical chicken salad sandwich and bagel with humus and fresh tomato were the order of the day and we bravely (but sadly) averted our eyes from the salted caramel chocolate cupcakes and other goodies.  Needless to say, coffee and coffee-based drinks are available and are excellent.

For dinner, we have always suggested Postcards Café, Café Coco, Gaylord’s, and Lighthouse Bistro, but now add Tiki Iniki (Cocktails, Cuisine & Mele) in Princeville to our list.  Unusual and delicious combinations for salads and entres and very intriguing desserts.  A ukulele player on the lanai added tropical ambiance.

If you like good food, fresh food, with interesting twists and flavors, Kaua’i has much to offer.  All the restaurants mentioned are an easy drive from our Kauai vacation rental condos.  Hula Now has vacation rentals that sleep 1 to 6 guests in full, queen, or king beds; some units have full kitchens and others have kitchenettes.  It is not too early to start thinking about your winter getaway (days are getting shorter and nights are getting longer and cooler….) before Hula Now is booked for the weeks you want.  You can see all our affordable luxury Kauai vacation rental condos at, where you can book safely and securely on line at any time.

We hope to be able to welcome you soon to your Kaua’i ohana and for you to experience our brand of warm Aloha.
